Saving Space and Money with Multi-Purpose Equipment

While my compound is being saved for, I’m living in an apartment community. I gotta tell you, too, it has convinced me more than ever that small gatherings of people who aren’t like-minded are a recipe for destruction…and that’s without the apocalypse happening.

There are a lot of dog owners around here that can’t be bothered to pick up after their pets. So my feral kids can play in the courtyard, I go out there periodically and pick up all the dog crap myself so they don’t squish it and track it in the house. Last time I did this, I left the two pound bag of dog feces on the front steps of the apartment offices. They’re still mad at me about that.

I lost my little garden shovel that I used for gathering purposes and needed another one. So, I was browsing through the store and noticed that there was only a $4 difference between a new garden shovel and a folding entrenching tool. Here’s my thought process on that purchase…

  • Not much difference in the cost
  • Surprisingly, there wasn’t much difference in the weight
  • The entrenching tool is larger and takes up more space
  • Both of them pick up poo just fine, although the entrenching tool works better
  • Both of them could be used as a weapon, but the entrenching tool makes a much better killing instrument
  • The entrenching tool can be used for way more things than the little tiny girly garden tool
  • I have dug fighting positions with an entrenching tool, but the little shovel would take forever
  • The entrenching tool can be used for gardening just as well as the little shovel
  • I can cut down trees with the entrenching tool

I think you can see where I’m going with this. I went home with a new entrenching tool, which was also an item I didn’t already have in my preps. The point I’m trying to get across is this…multi-purpose as many of your prep items as possible. It’ll help immensely in a savings of money, weight, and space.

Now that we’ve covered that, I’ll give you a few more updates for the apocalypse…

Here’s another interesting apocalyptic comic you might enjoy- Joe Golem Occult Detective- Drowning City. It’s coming out this summer.

It’s no doubt that sea levels are rising. If you’re planning your compound on the coast, be careful. There’s not telling where the coast will be.

Read this quote in the paper recently. It was spoken regarding the civil rights movement, but applies equally as well to the end of the world…”A strange wind is blowing and it’s blowing empires away,” Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, 1960’s civil rights leader.

Have you ever wondered what’s up with the ‘sell by’ dates you see in the grocery stores? HERE’s a good article from the Wall Street Journal that covers it.

Has anyone seen the movie Air, starring Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead? I haven’t, so I’d love to post a review from any of my audience that has.

For those of you who live in coastal areas of the United States, I thought you might be interested in seeing how soon your home will be underwater. Check out the sea level rising map HERE.

I wanted to share an apocalyptic post with you from a golfing website that my team manages. Golfing in the Apocalypse- Revolution (tv series)

Here’s the link to Time Warner Cable’s 2014 National Preparedness Guide. I know you’re thinking I’m a year off, but has prepping changed much since last year. Let’s be honest, for the vast majority of the people out there, prepping is still pre-atomic age in scope.

Post-Apocalyptic Babes- Fact or Fiction?

I watch a lot of post-apocalyptic movies. I’d say it’s my favorite genre. One of the problems I have with them, though, is that the women are always so hot. Or, put it this way, there are always hot women around. It’s great to look at, but is it very realistic?

I mean, sure, in a group of any size there is sure to be a certain percentage of hot women. But will what we consider to be hot exist in any way once the Big Bad happens?

Make up?

Shaving legs, underarms, and other not so accessible places?

Nice clothes?

Skinny?

It’s all going to change. You guys prep everything you can, but have you prepared your psyche for the awful truth that those hot women in the post-apocalyptic movies, shows, and comic books simply will not be there?

Here are a few examples of what you can plan on NOT seeing…

Women- feel free to comment on this one. What will change for you in fashion, health, and beauty in the apocalypse?

Will You Build Your Hideaway this Year?

Here’s your update of survival goodness, but as this is the first post here for the year, I want the most important item to be a question…

WILL THIS YEAR BE THE ONE YOU TAKE ACTION?

I don’t know where you’re at right now, but…

Will you finally put together your go-bag?

Will you get training on _________(insert class name here_______?

Will you buy that piece of land and start building a hideaway?

OR…

Will you continue to wallow in self-complacency and just sit back and wait until something bad happens?

While you’re thinking about that, here are your updates…

Got a few bucks to spend on a zombie-proof cabin? Check out THESE.

I watched a really good post-apocalypse movie the other day called Goodbye World. It was intensely realistic and focused primarily on interpersonal relationships and slow societal breakdown. The big bad was a power grid failure along with the loss of distribution pathways for food and other goods and the confluence of events that happened after.

Ever heard of Enterovirus D68?

My friends at ITS Tactical posted a great article on repackaging meds for go bags. It’s HERE.

I’m currently reading Countdown by Alan Weisman. I can attest like one of the comments in the ratings pic that it is utterly frightening. If you want exposure to an apocalyptic event with real-life potential, then check out this book.

Build a Bug Out Kindle: A Digital Survival Library at Your Fingertips from the Art of Manliness

Netflix has some really good apocalyptic movies in their Instant Play list, both fiction and non-fiction. I just finished watching the Discovery documentary Apocalypse How that was really good. Although I don’t agree with all the information presented, it’s a very good primer of the variety of causes for an apocalyptic event. Highlights include commentary by Neil Degrasse Tyson and a comparison between future disaster response and past ones. in other words, if you look at how well prepared we are as a people for pre- or post-disaster operations, if something big hits, most everyone will surely die.

Two of my fave quotes from the show are…

“Black holes are the universe’s cosmic carnivores.”

In reference to solar flares…”the solar equivalent of ‘roid rage.”

Feel free to tweet those.

Ebola is still a viable instrument in a pending apocalypse- Ebola Outbreak Grows With More Deaths in Liberia

Last night I watched a movie called After the Dark on Netflix. It dealt with a group of prep school students ruminating on who in a small group would survive a massive radiological event. It was actually a pretty good movie. I was pleasantly surprised.

Entertainment Weekly’s Apocalypse Issue

One of my favorite pop culture magazines is Entertainment Weekly. Just finished devouring the latest issue focusing on the apocalypse film genre, and it’s great. Here’s a few teasers for you, but go right out and grab a copy before it goes away.

I have to admit I’m really looking forward to the reissue of the Mad Max saga, especially the bald and exceptionally ruggedized Charlize Theron.

Exploring Financial Apocalypse in Australia

Just got word about a new post-financial apocalypse movie filming in Australia that shows some promise. Guy Pearce is the main star, and he seldom disappoints in his performances. I posted an article below for you.

Is Australia ripe for a coming economic apocalypse or is it just coincidence that the area is popular for these types of stories? For another one, check out my review of Expatriates.
